2-A Piano

Strengthen your sight-reading skills, learn fun new chord progressions, dig into rhythm work and build on your knowledge from the level 1-A and 1-B Piano Classes. 

You should begin class after taking Piano 1-B, or these skills:

• Reading and playing with both hands at the same time
• Identifying and playing 7th chords
• Playing with different dynamics and expressions, like, legato and staccato
• Identifying and playing sharps and flats, and new intervals, like 4ths and 5ths
• Playing songs in major and minor keys
• Applying new skills to improvising

You will finish class with these skills:

• Identifying and playing new inversions, scales, chords with new shapes, and more black keys
• Constructing and playing blues chords, scales, and 12 bar blues progressions
• Understanding of how and when to use a pedal
• Beginning to shift out of five-finger scale patterns
• Playing more complex rhythms in both left and right hands
• Identifying and playing new notation, including dotted quarter notes, rests, ledger lines, and individual notes

To support our teachers and better accommodate the needs of our classes, we ask that students register at least 48 hours in advance of the class, lesson, and/or workshop.

GUITAR, PIANO, SONGWRITING, RECORDING & PRODUCTION

Caleb spent his childhood in Evergreen before his rotten parents uprooted him for the metropolis of Denver at the ripe age of 13. After graduating Denver School of the Arts and frequenting Swallow Hill, he moved to the desert city of Los Angeles, where he spent ten years as a working songwriter and producer. He is now back in his home state and excited to share what he’s learned along the way.

Caleb specializes in songwriting, production and guitar, yet struggles in the fields of diet, spelling and knowing why his wife is mad at him. Outside of the studio, you’ll find him fishing with his brother, watching the Nuggets with his Shar-Pei Kingsley, or alone in a stranger’s house buying cowboy boots off of Facebook Marketplace.
