Matt Skellenger

ELECTRIC BASS, DRUM SET, GUITAR, MUSIC THEORY, PERCUSSION, PIANO/KEYBOARD

Born and raised in Denver, Matt has been composing, performing, recording, and teaching in Colorado for 30 years. He earned a B.A. in Music from Metro State University in 2002 where he studied with the great Ron Miles. Matt has also studied with world renowned bassist and educator, Victor Wooten. Wanting to share his musical experiences with more people, Matt began teaching at Swallow Hill in 2008. He teaches Electric Bass, Guitar, Jazz Ensembles, Music Theory, Little Swallows, Kids Guitar, Piano and Drums. He customizes lessons to each students’ interests, goals, and skill level. Matt focuses on playing by ear, music theory, chord charts, tablature, and standard notation. When Matt is not teaching, he is playing his bass, watching sports, and enjoying time with his family.

Common Patterns on the Bass Neck 6/1

This workshop will explore common patterns on the Bass Neck using notes, intervals, and shapes. Students will leave with a better understanding of the fretboard.

Triad Practice for Bass Players 6/8

This workshop will cover exercises to develop a better understanding of how to play triads on the bass, and how to support a chord progression using triads.

Electric Bass Techniques 6/15

We will cover techniques for muting, strumming, fingerstyle, slapping, popping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, tapping and sliding on the electric bass.
