Intro to Fiddle Tunes

Hone your guitar, mandolin, electric or acoustic bass, and fiddle skills while learning to play fiddle standards in this intro ensemble-style setting. From hoedown to breakdown, get into the shuffles, rags, reels, scales, arpeggios, double stops, and rhythms associated with fiddle tunes. Students are strongly encouraged to start learning the tunes Red Haired Boy, St. Anne's Reel, and Angeline the Baker in advance. Prerequisites: Knowledge of basic chords on the guitar, mandolin, bass, and/or fiddle, plus an ability to read musical notation or tablature requested.

Martin Gilmore

Martin is a bluegrass musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and music educator based in Denver, Colorado. He is a founding member of the bluegrass band Long Road Home, an acclaimed solo performer, and band leader for The Martin Gilmore Trio.

He has performed all over the United States, as well as in Europe and Africa. He is also a highly respected music educator, teaching at the University of Denver Enrichment Program, his own private studio, and right here at Swallow Hill Music. In 2017, he joined the faculty at the University of Northern Colorado teaching folk and bluegrass guitar.
