For every songwriter, improvisational player, and music enthusiast, understanding modes and how they are applied is extremely important. In this eight-week group class, Casey breaks down modes into two separate categories: major modes and minor modes. Learn how each major scale has seven different modes within. Learn about the Major modes: Ionian, Lydian, and Mixolydian. If you enjoy music with a brighter/happier sound, this is the key to understanding what your favorite musicians are thinking when writing these songs. All of these modes are based on the major chords of a major scale. Then learn about the Minor Modes: Dorian, Phrygian, Aeolian, and Locrian. These modes are built around the minor/diminished chords of the major scale. The many moods of the many modes will become applicable to your playing, integrated into your improvising, and straight-up fun! This class is welcome to all instruments.
